Here is the latest Schuetz update (March 2008):

God is good!  After 8 months of itineration in Canada, we arrived back in Zambia on January 31 with great joy. It has been a grand reunion with our Zambian brothers and sisters in Christ.

We are still settling in and unpacking those last boxes that one never feels like finishing!  Some theft occurred in our home while we were gone so we are slowly replacing things and setting our house back in order.Upon arrival, we discovered that Zambia has a power crisis.  At this point, we have up to 48 hours of scheduled power cuts a week.  We are cooking on a one plate gas burner when necessary. There has been no gas for sale in the last month. We are enjoying  some cozy, candlelit evenings huddled around candles and flashlights reading stories aloud.

Please pray for the many people who have lost their homes due to flooding.  A brand new church (that the people built themselves) pastored by a HAM grad also collapsed.

Jerry is back in the saddle at HAM. He killed a big snake in the office as his grand entry back to work!!  At this time we are doing an evaluation of how things went the past 8 months. Some areas went very well while others need refining. HAM functioned without support from Canada for 6 months through the sales of chickens, fish and bananas.  Students also pay $560 a year to attend bible school. We will continue to teach in the Bible school, work in leadership development and capacity building.

While we were away, 16 students finished bible school and have done internships with national leaders in Zambia, Malawi, DRC and South Africa.  23 students are filling the seats this term.  Thank the Lord for faithful young men and women.

The staff at HAM care for 71 children. Their jobs at HAM help to feed, educate and provide medical support for their own children, orphans and extended family they are responsible for.

Jared, Samuel and Joshua have made an excellent adjustment back to Zambia.  As we write, 8 Zambian boys have just hopped over the gate to spend the afternoon. Pray for our boys that they would be a shining light for Jesus.

Please pray that we would be covered with extra protection at this time.  Our neighbour’s house was just broken into by 7 men armed with guns who tied up, beat the guard and then locked up the wife and child.  Their vehicle as well as household goods were taken. The Lord is our shield and defender!

The Lord bless you this week!  You are in our prayers daily. Thank you for your prayer and support.

If you have a problem reading this or would like a MS Word copy, please email us and we'll be happy to send it to you.
